Collection: DC 1949

The DC 1949 Collection captures Washington, D.C. in the years just after World War II, photographed by Tom Ellis Reeve on a trip to the nation's capital. The images move across the National Mall and beyond: the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial mirrored in the Reflecting Pool, the Jefferson Memorial from across the Tidal Basin, the U.S. Capitol dome glowing at dusk, and a solemn crowd gathered at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. Together, these photographs offer a quiet, unstaged view of America's most iconic monuments as they stood in 1949, decades before crowds of tourists and a very different city grew up around them. Each photograph in the DC 1949 Collection comes from Tom's personal slide archive and is reproduced as a fine art print, available in four sizes: 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, and 16×24.
